The consumer electronics retail market is dominated primarily by well-known big box retailers such as Best Buy, Circuit City, and CompUSA. Some general retailers also do a booming business in electronics merchandise, including Wal-Mart, Target, and Sears. In fact, the top 10 electronics dealers account for more than 70% of the US market. The story is much the same outside the US where consumers in need of gadgets turn to such chains as Dixons (part of DSG International), Grupo Elektra, and Yamada Denki. Of course, that doesn't mean smaller outfits can't compete in niche markets. Sharper Image, for example, is known for selling curious gizmos to upscale shoppers while Car Toys has made its business by focusing solely on the automobile aftermarket.
